Brighton and Hove Albion FC v Manchester United FC team Match Preview

Manchester United face Brighton on Friday night in a match which is more important for the Seagulls than Jose Mourinho’s side.

A victory for Brighton would move them onto 40 points, and mathematically guarantee their top flight survival, while their current tally of 37 means they remain in the mix for relegation.
United still want to secure a top two finish, but their attentions are now focused on the FA Cup final, which will be played against Chelsea later this month.
What the managers are saying:
Chris Hughton: “You have to go into every game thinking you can get a result - we'll be buoyed by our previous matches but United are in a good rhythm - these are the challenges we've worked so hard for.”
Jose Mourinho: “I think they don't need more points, I think they have the job done, but mathematically they still need a point or something or other results to go their way. I think Brighton will be there next year and that's a fantastic job for Chris and not surprising for me because since the start they have showed the quality and mentality to get the points they need to stay in the division.”
What the players are saying:
Dale Stephens: “It’s going to be a tough game, but it’s like a one-off game and there could be a cup final atmosphere. If we manage to win, we stay up. That’s added motivation on our behalf, but we’ve got three games to do what we need to do, and everyone in the squad is confident that we can do it.”
David de Gea: "I think they are a good side, they defend well and don’t concede many goals. They are dangerous at set-pieces and they’ve got some quick players who can hit you on the counter-attack. They are a dangerous team. At the end of the day, a team that gets promoted and then the following season manages to stay up, that is fundamental. I think they’ve been having a good season; as I said, they are a side that concedes very few goals and they are strong defensively.”
